In the historic neighborhoods around downtown, think Flamingo Park and the El Cid area, yards come with mature oaks, older irrigation, and houses with real character to design around. Farther out, new construction is going in fast. We design differently for each: preservation and layering in the old neighborhoods, establishment and structure in the new ones.

The older streets have canopy that took eighty years to grow. We design with it, protect the root zones, and pick understory plants that want the shade instead of tolerating it. If your yard has one of those trees, you have the best feature money cannot buy. The design's job is to frame it.
